Cold Sparks & Wedding Special Effects
Three effects, used once each at the right moment. We will also tell you which ones your venue is going to say no to.
What each effect actually does
Effects work because they are rare. One cold-spark moment in a reception is unforgettable; four is a fire drill.
Cold sparks
From $300
Machines that throw a fountain of sparks that are cool to the touch — they are not pyrotechnics and there is no flame. Used for the grand entrance, the first dance or the last song. Two units either side of the floor is the usual setup.
Most Northeast Florida venues allow them. Some do not, and some require advance notice or a certificate. We check with your venue before you pay for them.
Dry ice fog
From $150
A low fog that sits on the floor at ankle height and does not rise — the "dancing on clouds" first dance. Because it stays low it does not set off smoke detectors the way a standard hazer can, which is why venues that ban fog often allow this.
Works best on a flat, enclosed floor. Outdoors, or in a room with strong air conditioning, the effect disperses quickly — we will tell you if your room will not hold it.
Bubbles
From $100
Cheap, cheerful and the best-value effect we sell. Excellent for send-offs, for the kids at a family wedding, and for outdoor receptions where fog will not hold and sparks are not allowed.
Bubble fluid makes hard floors slippery. We place machines off the dance floor and we do not run them under a floor people are about to dance on.
The venue conversation, before the invoice
Every venue in Northeast Florida has its own rule about effects, and those rules change. Some ballrooms allow cold sparks with notice. Some historic properties allow nothing at all. Some allow low fog but not haze, because haze reaches the detectors and low fog does not.
We ask your venue before you pay for an effect. If the answer is no, you find out in planning rather than at 9pm on your wedding night with a machine you paid for sitting in a case.
Where each effect belongs
Grand entrance. Cold sparks. This is what the effect is for — doors open, sparks up, room on its feet.
First dance. Dry ice fog, with the room lighting dropped and the couple lit. Cold sparks work here too but choose one; both at once is noise.
Last song or send-off. Cold sparks again if you did not use them at the entrance, or bubbles outdoors.
Cake cutting, toasts, dinner. Nothing. These moments need people to hear each other.
Safety, honestly
Cold sparks are far safer than pyrotechnics — the spark is cool enough to pass a hand through and there is no open flame — but they are still a machine throwing material into the air in a room full of people in formalwear. We set exclusion distance around the units, we keep them clear of low ceilings and drapes, and we run them on our own power rather than a shared circuit.
Dry ice needs handling and ventilation. Bubbles make floors slick. None of that is a reason to skip them; it is a reason to have the people running them do it every weekend rather than for the first time at your wedding.
Questions we get asked
Are cold sparks safe indoors?
In most rooms, yes — they produce a cool spark with no flame and are designed for indoor use. Ceiling height, drapes and sprinkler placement all matter, so we confirm with your venue before booking the effect.
Will fog set off the fire alarm?
Dry ice fog stays at floor level and generally does not reach ceiling detectors, which is why venues that prohibit haze often allow it. We still tell the venue what we are bringing.
What if our venue says no to effects?
Then we do not charge you for them. We ask the venue during planning, and if the answer is no we put the budget somewhere it will actually be seen — usually lighting.
Can we have effects without booking the DJ?
Effects need cueing to the music, so on weddings we run them as part of the event. Ask us about the specific moment you have in mind.
